This book is published on the occasion of the exhibitions Ulrike Müller: The old expressions are with us always and there are always others (mumok, Vienna, October 10, 2015–February 21, 2016), curated by Manuela Ammer, and Always, Always, Others: Non-Classical Forays into Modernism (mumok, Vienna, October 10, 2015–May 8, 2016), curated by Manuela Ammer and Ulrike Müller. Müller (born 1971) uses abstraction as an idiom that can be figuratively appropriated, emotionally charged and politically connotative. In addition to exploring her art in varied mediums, this book features the artist’s readings of other artworks that relate to her interest in the vocabularies of abstraction and the rendering of bodies.
