Rokni Haerizadeh, Ramin Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian will activate Dastaghs at Gallery Isabelle van den Eynde, Dubai, on June 1, 11am–6pm.
On Saturday 1 June from 11am, we will demonstrate the operational mode of three painting machines called Dastaghs (Rokni Haerizadeh, Ramin Haerizadeh and Hesam Rahmanian). In Farsi, a dastagh means a ‘device’ or ‘machine’ and it also refers to a melodic matrix in traditional Iranian music. Therefore, a dastagh carries out a continuous, repetitive act, potentially debugging itself. Each machine is an assembly of objects covering the body that restrict certain physical functions, such as sight or movement and heighten others like touch and hearing.
